Screening categories
Politically exposed persons
Politically exposed persons (PEPs) are individuals who hold or have held public roles that may make them more susceptible to bribery, corruption, or abuse of power. Screening for PEPs is a key component of any AML compliance program.
ComplyCube categorises PEPs by level of influence and exposure:
- PEP level 1: International-level figures such as heads of state, ambassadors, and senior officials of international organisations.
- PEP level 2: National-level public officials, including ministers, members of parliament, and senior executives in state-owned enterprises.
- PEP level 3: Regional officials such as state governors, provincial leaders, or senior regional bureaucrats.
- PEP level 4: Local government officials, including mayors, council members, or lower-level public servants.
A positive result in this screening category doesn’t imply wrongdoing but requires enhanced due diligence.
